API / Venafi Interview questions
What is the difference between Trust Protection Platform and Trust Protection Foundation?
These aren't two different products — "Trust Protection Foundation" is simply the newer name some current Venafi/CyberArk documentation uses for the same underlying self-hosted platform historically called Trust Protection Platform (TPP), which is itself now sold commercially as CyberArk Certificate Manager Self-Hosted.
The rename reflects a broader shift in how the product is positioned: "Foundation" language emphasizes that this self-hosted engine is the base layer other modules (CodeSign Protect/Code Sign Manager, SSH Protect/SSH Manager) sit on top of, rather than a standalone TLS-only tool. Functionally, the discovery engine, policy folder tree, orchestration connectors, and the /vedauth and /vedsdk REST API endpoints are unchanged across the naming.
For an interview or day-to-day work, treating "TPP," "Trust Protection Foundation," and "Certificate Manager Self-Hosted" as three names for the same self-hosted engine, at different points in its branding history, is the practical and accurate way to think about it.
