API / Venafi Interview questions
What is Venafi?
Venafi is the machine identity management platform that discovers, issues, and automatically renews the digital certificates and cryptographic keys that let servers, applications, containers, and devices authenticate to each other.
The company was founded in 2000 and built its name around protecting TLS certificates, SSH keys, and code-signing keys at enterprise scale, so an expired certificate never quietly takes down a production service.
Ownership has changed twice in recent years: CyberArk acquired Venafi from Thoma Bravo in October 2024 for about $1.54 billion and renamed the flagship product CyberArk Certificate Manager, then Palo Alto Networks completed its own acquisition of CyberArk on February 11, 2026. Practically every practitioner still just says "Venafi," and the underlying platform and APIs are largely unchanged.
