DevOps / AppDynamics Interview questions

Describe the Metric Browser in AppDynamics?

The Metric Browser is the Controller UI screen for browsing and plotting the raw metrics AppDynamics collects, organized in a tree structure by application, tier, node, and metric category, rather than pre-packaged into a fixed dashboard.

It's useful when a default dashboard doesn't show the exact metric you need — for example, drilling into a specific JMX counter, a hardware metric from a Machine Agent extension, or a raw error count for one node rather than the whole tier — and metrics found there can be added to a custom dashboard for ongoing tracking.

Data in the Metric Browser is stored at one-minute granularity initially and rolls up into coarser resolutions (such as 10-minute and 1-hour) over time, which is why very old data appears smoother and less spiky than data from the last hour.

How is data organized in the Metric Browser?
What happens to metric data granularity over time?
