Web / HTML Interview questions

HTML 5: How do you find the user's location or position?

The HTML Geolocation API is used to get the geographical position of a user.

Since this could possibly compromise user's privacy, the position is not available unless the user approves it.

The getCurrentPosition() method is used to get the user's position.

<html>
<head>
<script>
function getLocation() {
    if (navigator.geolocation) {
        navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(showPosition);
    } else {
       alert ("Geolocation is not supported by this browser.");
    }
}
function showPosition(position) {
    alert( "Latitude: " + position.coords.latitude +
    "\nLongitude: " + position.coords.longitude);
}
</script>

</head>
<body onload = 'getLocation()'></body>
</html>
