AI / RenovateBot Interview Questions
What are Renovate presets and how do you use them?
Presets are named, reusable configuration bundles that can be extended in renovate.json. Renovate ships dozens of built-in presets covering common use cases.
{ "extends": [ "config:recommended", "schedule:weekly", "group:allNonMajor", ":automergeMinor", ":timezone(Europe/London)", ":prHourlyLimit2", "helpers:pinGitHubActionDigests" ] }
| Preset | Effect |
|---|---|
| config:recommended | Sensible defaults: semantic commits, rangeStrategy, common ignores |
| :automergeMinor | Automerge all minor version updates that pass CI |
| :automergePatch | Automerge all patch updates |
| group:allNonMajor | Combine all minor and patch updates into a single PR |
| schedule:weekly | Run only at weekends |
| helpers:pinGitHubActionDigests | Pin GitHub Actions to immutable SHA256 digests |
| :dependencyDashboard | Enable a dashboard issue tracking all updates |
Custom organisation presets: host a renovate-config repo in your org and reference it as "github>myorg/renovate-config".
