Tools / Microsoft Threat Modeling Tool (TMT) Interview questions
What is STRIDE?
STRIDE is the mnemonic TMT uses to classify every threat it generates, standing for Spoofing, Tampering, Repudiation, Information Disclosure, Denial of Service, and Elevation of Privilege.
| Category | Violates |
| Spoofing | Authentication |
| Tampering | Integrity |
| Repudiation | Non-repudiation |
| Information Disclosure | Confidentiality |
| Denial of Service | Availability |
| Elevation of Privilege | Authorization |
Each category maps to the opposite of a security property, which is why STRIDE is useful as a checklist: for every diagram element you can ask "could this be spoofed, tampered with, denied service," and so on, rather than relying on whatever attacks happen to come to mind.
