Java / Lombok Interview questions
How do you add Lombok to a Gradle project?
Gradle uses the compileOnly and annotationProcessor configurations together for
Lombok — compileOnly makes the annotations available while writing code, and
annotationProcessor tells Gradle to actually run Lombok during compilation to generate the
boilerplate.
dependencies { compileOnly 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.30' annotationProcessor 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.30' testCompileOnly 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.30' testAnnotationProcessor 'org.projectlombok:lombok:1.18.30' }
Both lines are necessary: omitting annotationProcessor means the annotations compile but no
code actually gets generated, resulting in "cannot find symbol" errors for methods like generated getters. The
test-prefixed variants are needed separately if you use Lombok annotations in test source code too.
