Actually, there are two ways of detecting and acting upon when an input changes in the child component in angular.

• Use the ngOnChanges() lifecycle method.
• Use input property setter.

  @Input() categoryId: string;
        
    ngOnChanges(changes: SimpleChanges) {
        
        this.doSomething(changes.categoryId.currentValue);
